The UK Conservation Translocations Database was developed by UKCEH on behalf of Natural England and with inputs from NatureScot and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru | Natural Resources Wales. The motivation for creating the Database and early iterations of the Database structure were generated by members of the England Species Reintroductions Taskforce, a technical advisory group to the UK Government.
By collating information on translocation projects for the whole of the UK, we aim to:
- improve transparency by reporting translocation activity on an open access platform;
- promote best practice in planning, implementation and monitoring of conservation translocations;
- facilitate networking and knowledge exchange to harness existing expertise across the UK and beyond; and
- enable better assessment of the degree to which conservation translocations are helping us meet national and international environmental targets.
