Project summary
At Slapton Ley, the overall population of C. litoralis declined after the 1940s due to the cessation of cattle grazing and the subsequent spread of Phragmites australis, which has in recent years reduced the availability of suitable open shore habitat to very few areas.

This research into the biology and habitat requirements of C. litoralis has been used to develop suitable management plans to maintain the current population and to re-establish another population at a site on the Ley
